How others make low cost wigs

Cheap hair and wigs labeled “100% Human Hair” are often inexpensive because of low-cost sourcing, aggressive processing, and questionable blending practices. High-quality, ethically sourced human hair—especially virgin Remy hair—is expensive, so bargain products usually rely on shortcuts.

The main cost-cutting tactics include:

1. Using "Comb Waste" and Fallen Hair

The cheapest human hair is often “fallen hair” or comb waste, collected from brushes, salon floors, trash, or drains. Because it comes from many people, the roots and ends are mixed, making it prone to matting and tangling

2. Harsh Chemical Stripping (The Acid Bath)

Factories may use harsh acid baths to remove the cuticle and reduce tangling, then coat the hair in silicone for temporary shine. After washing, the coating can fade, leaving the hair dry and brittle.

3. Blending with Synthetic Fibers or Animal Hair

Some low-cost products may be mixed with synthetic fibers or animal hair, such as processed goat or yak hair, while still being marketed in ways that imply they are fully human hair.

4. Extremely Low Sourcing Costs

Manufacturers also keep prices down by sourcing hair cheaply, including temple tonsuring donations sold at auction or hair purchased from vulnerable sellers in low-income regions.

5. Cheap, High-Volume Factory Labor

Much of the hair is processed in high-volume factories where low labor costs and mechanized production make sorting, dyeing, sewing, and packaging faster and cheaper.
